A year ago today I received my business license from Kansas City and Orange Cat Co Photography was born. What started out back in Maine as a hobby to take portraits for family and friends has grown into a wonderful small business. My love for photography is ultimately led me to start Orange Cat Co. I had no idea that my little business would bring me to some of the most beautiful locations in Kansas City. By far, my favorite thing about being a photographer is the people that I have had the pleasure of meeting over the last year. Newly engaged couples, authors, businessmen, children, and families have allowed me into their world for an hour to capture the smiles, hugs, giggles, and laughter. Each client has an amazing story to tell or accomplishment to celebrate. With so much negativity in the world, it is such an honor to have a job where I get to celebrate the little things.
Happy first birthday Orange Cat Co Photography. Here's to many, many more!

What do you get when you combine a gorgeous country road, late fall sun, cozy flannel, an adorable pup, and a beautiful couple? Fall portrait perfection. A special thank you to my sister for inviting me to southwestern Tennessee for an amazing weekend of country roads, antiquing, and cotton fields. I wish the two of you all the best! See you again soon!
Ms. C had a simple request for her portraits with her son. She wanted to have fall foliage. Our original photography session was supposed to be in early October, but Mother Nature decided to throw a wrench in that plan and the trees were still green. Between Mother Nature's complete lack of cooperation and scheduling conflicts, we were finally able to get together for a photography session in mid-November. By pure coincidence, we happened to choose the weekend the gingko trees were at peak color. I believe this is what they mean by "happy accident"?
I was very excited to meet up with the S family in downtown Liberty for a sisters photography session. As you can see from the portraits, all three girls are naturally photogenic and it was so fun to walk around Liberty to take advantage of all of the different backdrops. The weather could not have been more perfect, one of the last "shorts days" of late summer.
I met up with the K family at Liberty Memorial to take family portraits with a skyline view. It was a beautiful fall day with clear blue skies. The boys were a bit skeptical of me at first; understandably so, it is much more fun to roll down hills and make funny faces than it is to stand still and smile for your picture. With a little compromise, some mild bribery, and a lot of giggles we were able to complete the photography session. Overall, this was such a fun session with genuine smiles and love.
There are few things better than a warm, sunny day in early fall. I met up with the A family on a perfect early fall day at English Landing Park in Parkville, MO. We were able to get a few portraits by the river before little T decided he was done sitting still. Fortunately, mom and dad had plenty of tricks in mind to keep him entertained and there was a playground to explore! The A family was so fun to work with, and I love all the toddler giggles we were able to capture. I hope they look back on these portraits with smile as T grows up.
I am very happy to announce that Orange Cat Co Photography will participating in it's first vendor fair on Sunday, October 31st at MIC Nutrition in Independence, MO. I will be selling matted prints of my landscape portraits, as well as gift certificates and photography sessions. If all goes well, I will be offering larger prints and possibly canvases in the near future.
If you are in the Independence area, please stop in for the opportunity to support a variety of local small businesses, and while you are there, feel free to stop by the table with the orange table cloth to say hello! And just like that, it's time to put away our bathing suits and pull out the hoodies. Fall is here! We turned of our air conditioning a couple of day ago, opting for open windows to welcome in the cool autumn air. Soon the leaves will start to change, providing a beautiful backdrop for family portraits!
I am currently mostly booked for October and now booking for November/ December. If you schedule your photography session for before November 15th, your digital portraits will be ready in time to order holiday cards. Framed family portraits and canvases also make wonderful holiday gifts. Orange Cat Co Photography now offers headshot photography!

I had a hunch this was going to be an amazing photography session the moment A reached out to me with a request to take family portraits at the family farm. I was not disappointed. The farm had a variety of gorgeous backdrops to choose from, and A's brother joined in on the fun by providing a tractor as a prop. Such a fun family to work with, I just wish the storms would have had other plans. That's summer in the mid-west for you!
