Mrs. S reached out to me through my Better Business Bureau Profile, she wanted to have family portraits taken. We decided to meet up at the Nelson-Atkin's Museum of Art to take advantage of the architectural backdrops as well as the natural scenery. The S family is a close-knit family and you can just see the love bubbling out of their portraits. An absolute joy to work with, and the portraits came out beautiful despite the cloudy skies. I wish the S family all the best.

H. is a graduating senior and wanted to have Senior Portraits with an urban feel. After a bit of discussion, we decided that doing a split venue photography session would give her just the look and feel she was going for. For the first half of the photography session, we went to a recently closed bridge downtown to for some industrial/graffiti backdrops and for the second half we went to a nearby sculpture garden for some architectural backdrops. I am so happy with the end result, and H. has told me that she adores her portraits! Congratulations to H. for her upcoming graduation and best of luck on all future endeavors!
I was very excited to meet up with the S family in downtown Liberty for a sisters photography session. As you can see from the portraits, all three girls are naturally photogenic and it was so fun to walk around Liberty to take advantage of all of the different backdrops. The weather could not have been more perfect, one of the last "shorts days" of late summer.
I had a hunch this was going to be an amazing photography session the moment A reached out to me with a request to take family portraits at the family farm. I was not disappointed. The farm had a variety of gorgeous backdrops to choose from, and A's brother joined in on the fun by providing a tractor as a prop. Such a fun family to work with, I just wish the storms would have had other plans. That's summer in the mid-west for you!
Over Memorial Day weekend I had the opportunity to take family portraits for a large family consisting of three sisters, their families, and mom! It was a group of 13 all together. Gezer Park in Leawood provided a variety of backdrops with it's pond, stone walls, gardens, and mini-vineyard. There was even a playground to encourage a few smiles from the smallest family member.
My husband and I visited family in Kansas City, and I brought my camera along for the occasion. I'm not much of a fan of posed portrait photography; I much prefer to capture people having fun in front of the camera such that their personality shows through. Natural smiles are much better than forced ones.
My mother-in-law and nephews visited me in Maine in for the holidays. We visited Portland Headlight for some family portraits. My nephews loved climbing on the rocks and exploring the old fort. Lesson learned: the easiest way to get teenage boys to smile is to have them pretend to be shooting an album cover.
